Episode 5 - TransWave Jamaica
We had the pleasure of interviewing Neish McLean, the co-founder and Executive Director of Transwave Jamaica. They are Jamaica's first non-profit organization solely dedicated to focusing on promoting the health and well-being of the transgender, gender non-conforming and intersex communities.
During the interview, we got the chance to hear about the path to starting a much needed resource organization for people of trans experience in Jamaica. Neish discussed how they are creating spaces where people are able to be themselves. TransWave Jamaica has evolved from a blog to an organization providing a full range of resources and services, including advocacy, a variety of trainings, and visibility campaigns. In fact, in the near future you will be able to purchase a Trans Active shirt to support the Trans Active visibility and wellness campaign. As soon as we have details about how to get your shirt we will share them on our blog and social media.
Neish was in the Kansas City area as part of a Young Leaders of the Americas program. During that time Neish was hosted by the Kansas City Anti-Violence Project. It was a great fit for Neish because of their alignment with the TransWave mission. It also provided an opportunity to learn more about non-profit operations.
